His first win in over six years. His fifth career title. One of the most emotional moments in recent PGA Tour history.

Gary Woodland won the Texas Children’s Houston Open on Sunday at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, finishing at 21-under 259 — a new 72-hole tournament scoring record. He won by five shots over Nicolai Hojgaard. The win is Woodland’s first on the PGA Tour since the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. It is his fifth career title.
Woodland had brain surgery in September 2023 to remove a lesion the size of a baseball from the side of his head. He returned to the Tour in January 2024. Two weeks ago, he sat down with Golf Channel and revealed he had been battling PTSD ever since. He described breaking down in tears during rounds and hiding in portable bathrooms on course.
“It’s just another day, right, that I’ve got to keep healing. Today was a good day. But I’m going to keep fighting,” Woodland said. “I’m proud of myself right now.”
His wife Gabby walked all 18 holes with him. Their three children were at home. The victory makes Woodland eligible for the Masters in two weeks.
